Angola/Hungary: vice-minister of foreign affairs and trade of Hungary finds strengthening relations between the two countries important

Luanda – Relations and links between the people of Angola and Hungary are the „most important” elements of the two countries’ cooperation, stressed today (Monday), Mr. László Szabó, vice-minister of foreign affairs and trade of Hungary

The diplomat said this to Angop on the 4 de Fevereiro International Airport, a few minutes after his arrival to Luanda for a three-day official visit, whose objective is to give new impetus to the cooperation between Angola and this member State of the European Union.

According to the diplomat, this visit will enable to present Hungary as a tourist destination, and facilitate constant and regular relations between the people of the two countries, while attracting business on both sides.

Another objective of vice-minister László Szabó’s visit is to sign an agreement of cooperation, in order to give new dynamism to the bilateral relations.

Considering that Angola is currently diversifying its economy - which has rather mainly been dependent on petrol -, the great variety of new business opportunities offered by Hungary are most welcome.

The vice-minister stressed that Hungary has a well developed and highly mechanized agriculture and can supply Angola with agricultural material and machinery, in addition to the important business exchange opportunities in the fields of infrastructure, recycling/reusing of military equipment, technology transfer, telecommunication and information technology.

The Republic of Angola and Hungary established diplomatic relations on April 8, 1977, by signing an Agreement on Economic, Technical-Scientific and Cultural cooperation.

Angola: Education and higher education have to have priority within the bilateral relations, says the ambassador to Hungary.

Luanda – the Angolan ambassador to Hungary, Lizeth Satumbo Pena, defended today (Monday) in Luanda the strengthening of the bilateral relations with Hungary, with priorities to education and higher education.

The diplomat said this to Angop on the 4 de Fevereiro International Airport, where she was to welcome the Hungarian vice-minister of foreign affairs and trade, Mr. László Szabó, on a three-day official visit in Angola to strengthen bilateral relations.

According to Lizeth Pena the cooperation has to extend to these fields, „keeping in mind the prestigious Hungarian schools and their technological potential " – which can be incorporated into the Government’s national development plan regarding expert training -, not to mention  agriculture and healthcare.

Angola and Hungary to examine development possibilities on cooperation mechanisms

Luanda – Analysing the expansion of bilateral relations between the Republic of Angola and Hungary to as much levels as possible were in the limelight of discussions today (Tuesday) in Luanda at the meeting between  Ângela Bragança, State Secretary for cooperation of Mirex and Mr. László Szabó, vice-minister of foreign affairs and trade of the European country.

During the press conference following the meeting the State Secretary for cooperation stressed the importance of the cooperation between the two countries

Ângela Bragança emphasized that said country had already helped Angola in the past.

The State Secretary for Cooperation mentioned that technical experts will go to Hungary to study the effective mechanisms and ways of implementation of this  cooperation.

Consequently, she expressed the pleasure of the Angolan authorities on the interest of this country to participate in the national expert training process.

The mere intention of the authorities of said country to open an embassy in Luanda shows that this diplomatic step will also further the revigorization of the relations between the two countries.

The State Secretary announced that the Hungarian party is ready to offer Angolan products on its market, which is the door to the European market.

Speaking about the objectives of the cooperation she emphasized that „there is not only question of exchange of goods, but of technological transfer also”.

She mentioned that the Agreement on visa suppression and the Agreement on technical cooperation were among the documents under discussion during the negotiations, among other issues.

On his part, the vice-minister of foreign affairs and trade, László Szabó reported on the opening of an  embassy of Hungary in Luanda in the near future, which will largely contribute to strengthen the relations between the two countries.

He said that they had tackled the main fields of a future cooperation, these being healthcare, agriculture, and public transportation.

He emphasized that his country was not only thinking in terms of exchange of goods, but also in terms of ceating new jobs.

On the other hand he highlighted the eforts of the Angolan government in order to diversify its economy.

Angola: Hungary to reopen an embassy in 2016

Luanda – The Republic of Hungary will reopen its embassy in Luanda in order to revigorize bilateral relations between the two States, Hungarian vice-minister of foreign affairs and trade László Szabó said today (Monday) in Luanda

The Hungarian diplomat said this to Angop, a few minutes after his arrival to the capital of Angola for a three-day official visit of a delegation of experts,  which aims at revigorizing the cooperation between the two countries.

According to the guest, while the negotiations aiming at the reopening of the embassy scheduled for the first quarter of 2016 „will undoubtedly give new impetus to the present bilateral relations, the negociations about to be carried out in Luanda will help to set its exact date – he said.

On his first visit to Angola László Szabó outlined the broadening of Hungary’s cooperation strategy, „with the business opportunities and development tendencies of the continent in mind”.

“We admit that our relations have to be improved, therefore we have to open an embassy here in Angola” – he said, adding that „the Angolan government is open and we shall negotiate on the strengthening of the relations”.

He reminded that after the closure of the former Hungarian embassy and the termination of the „cold war” relations between the two countries have been maintained through the Hungarian ambassador to South Africa, who regularly travels to Luanda.

Angola is in a position to improve the atmosphere of the negotiations, the director of the National Private Investment Agency (ANIP), responsible for technical and legal development, pointed out during his meeting with the Hungarian vice-minister of foreign affairs and trade, László Szabó, currently on official visit in Angola.

In this context José Chinjamba invited Hungary to participate in the diversification of the Angolan economy. „The conditions for the friendly nations to participate in Angola’s development are in place” – said the director of ANIP, speaking on behalf of José Chinjamba, ANIP’s president, outlining for the Hungarian delegation the legal framework of private investments in Angola, and highlighting that in the next few months Angola would probably embrace a new legal framework with the objective of further improving private investments in Angola. Angola intends to find as much Angolan and foreign investors as possible in order to diversify its economy”.

As a basis for all this, Angola launched the policy of diversification of the economy, making it clear that Angola is open for national and foreign investors in the fields of public transportation, hotel and tourism, construction, agriculture and informatics. José Chinjamba  advocated for the more intensive participation of Hungarian businessmen on the Angolan market, stressing that the businessmen of this East-European country have to export capital and knowledge to Angola and participate more actively in the diversification of the Angolan economy.

He emphasized that the oil price decrease has influenced the Angolan government’s infrastructural investments of the railway and the ports also. He showed optimism regarding the revigorization of the bilateral relations concerning agriculture, informatics, public transportation and sports. „Hungary has extensive experience regarding hospital and plebiscitary databases, as well as a wide agricultural machine and seed-corn stock to further agricultural activities” – he pointed out, adding that Hungary is ready to share its experiences with Angola in the most varied domains of life. László Szabó said that next year the Hungarian embassy in Angola would be reopened following the signing of the cooperation agreement

The Hungarian vice-minister of foreign affairs and trade will conclude his Angolan visit tomorrow, accompanied by the Angolan ambassador to Hungary, Lizeth Pena and high-ranking personalities of the Hungarian ministry. László Szabó will meet with the minister of economy  Abraão Gourgel, Afonso Pedro Canga minister of agriculture and Ângela Bragança State Secretary for cooperation.

Suggestion that Hungary reinforces its relations

In order to give new impetus to the cooperation, the State Secretary for Cooperation suggested today, in Luanda, to the vice-minister of foreign affairs and trade of Hungary, László Szabó, the establishment of a partnership beneficial for both Angola and Hungary.

Ângela Bragança made this suggestion at a meeting, pointing out that both countries have to outline a secure way to strengthen and tighten the relations of friendship and cooperation.

“The basis of Angola’s perspectives of cooperation is diversification and development, with prime concern to infrastrukture, energy, water management, agriculture, processing industry and mining, healthcare, education and expert training” – Ângela Bragança said, stressing that the different sections of the Ministry of Foreign Relations are about to examine the Hungarian suggestion of an Agreement on Economic and Technical Cooperation, which aims at rendering cooperation more objective and dynamic.

For the State Secretary Angola and Hungary are stable countries, which could collaborate in a mutually beneficial  way in the most varied sectors, ensuring added-value production, giving priority to political and economic cooperation in order to bring the two nations closer to each other. For Angola, the cooperation would not be limited to the exchange of goods, Ângela Bragança said, but would aim at establishing an all encompassing system to ensure making the most of the cooperation, first of all as regards technical training.

The State Secretary for cooperation informed the Hungarian vice-minister that the 2013 – 2017 National Development Plan contains structural projects to ensure the diversification of the Angolan economy, the sustainability of the economy and the progressive improvement of the social conditions.

Common objectives

The vice-minister of foreign affairs and trade, László Szabó said that his country would like to promote cooperation between the two countries, with main focus on agriculture, healthcare and public transportation. „The Hungarian investments in Angola can create more jobs”. After praising the Angolan government’s efforts in order to diversify the economy, László Szabó pointed out the common objectives of Angola and Hungary, highlighting the cooperation on the domains of exchange of economic experiences, agriculture, public transportation, defense, science and technology.

The Hungarian vice-minister spoke of the possibility to create a mixed commission, in order to lay the foundation of a wider cooperation between the Angolan and Hungarian businessmen, reminding that the Africa-Hungary Economic Forum will be held this November in Budapest, and invited Angola to participate.

Hungary’s objective is to strengthen its ties with stable countries, like Angola, the Hungarian vice-minister said,  emphasizing that the Hungarian embassy will soon reopen in Angola.
